You know those days, when you don't so much wake up as slowly come to the realisation that the frenetic weirdness inside your head has faded to reveal the bleak landscape of morning; when the first thing you reach for is your sunglasses, and you sit on the edge of the bed waiting for your head to catch up?
Disconnected images of the night before vie with the aliens of your dreams as you stagger to the fridge in search of something to rehydrate your body.
Turing away in sheer horror at the thought of rebooting your system from a bottle of Jolimont Chardonnay, you fill the kettle to make tea, whilst musing on God's justice and His mercy; wondering just which of these irreconcilable attributes you have been graced with.
Somewhere there must be a special heaven for party people, where the grog never runs out, the music goes on forever, and all the wrongs of the world which were righted the night before stay fixed because there is no morning after.
Such was the Nordic Valhalla of earlier times, except their vision was tempered with the knowledge that all parties must end; that eventually must come the Day of Ragnarok, the last morning after, when the Fenris Wolf would bring chaos back to the world.
I can feel his approach even now. When he arrives I shall offer him a bottle of Jolimont Chardonnay - just to complete the deal.

But it's the coffee I crave before I give myself over to complete self-pity. It usually jigs me right and lifts me over the hump of myself.
